2009 is over in…

Wow. The busiest year of my life comes to a close. I have no complaints about 2009; I got a lot accomplished:

In January, I started a new job. In May, I got married, moved, then graduated. In June and September I changed positions at my job, each one an improvement. I also learned, thanks to the pay stubs I’m provided with every other Friday, that taxes really, really suck.

It’s been quite a year.

Now that all of that is out of the way: On to 2010!

All hail Google!

A coworker has a Droid phone, and the other day started to do a Google Search. It popped up previous searches — from his home computer and his work computer. Obviously, Google is keeping track of what the account searches for. That alone isn’t too scary, but:

“If you have something that you don’t want anyone to know, maybe you shouldn’t be doing it in the first place”

Yeah, that’s not frightening in the least.

I’m starting to rethink my use of gmail and other Google services. While it’s true that they are damn convenient, they’re also starting to become pretty horrifying. They’re keeping too much data and becoming too convenient. At the same time, though, most of my use of the internet is pretty boring; I look up Linux, sports stuff, politics, fantasy/sci-fi stuff.

Still, Google is starting to give me the heebie-jeebies.

Best in the league.

With thirty games played, Bruce Boudreau’s Washington Capitals improved tonight to 44 points, for a moment taking the lead in the NHL from the San Jose Sharks (43 points, 31 games played). Ovechkin is approaching the possibility of fifty goals in his first fifty games of the 2009-2010 season; we shall see. Their latest victory, over the Tampa Bay Lightning, was a shut out — 3-0, with Ovie notching two of the three.

In other league news, Pittsburgh lost to the worst team in the league 3-2 in regulation. That is all I need to say about that matter. Except one last thing: BWAHAHAHAHA.

Wow, that was a nailbiter. Down 30-20, the Saints managed to tie — thank you for the missed field goal, Redskins — and then win it in overtime with two field goals. I disapprove of the Redskins calling time out just before the field goal kick (it was good), but that’s okay, the next time around — it was good. All they really did was succeed in pissing me off and dragging out the game.

With four games to go, the Saints may well go undefeated in the regular season; they will certainly pick up at least one more win, against Tampa, unless lighting strikes Brees on the field.
