PodCast Review: Welcome to Night Vale

All hail the glow cloud

Today we’re doing Welcome to Night Vale!

This is one of the first podcasts I started listening to regularly, and it is one that I don’t listen to enough — I’m about fifty episodes in, which puts me around a hundred behind. This is an enjoyable, weird, and off-the-wall podcast filled with surreal ideas and stories.

Filled to the brim.

There’s something about these off the wall, surreal stories I like, and I’m not quite sure what it is, but I’ve always been a fan. While I’m writing this on Halloween, it isn’t really creepy. There are a few eerie ideas here and there — especially centered around the dog park — but most of it is just funny and bizarre. For example: the mayoral race that includes a seven-headed dragon and the faceless old woman who secretly lives in your house. Or station management being some sort of… monster.

It’s sort of like a funny X-Files, except instead of an FBI agent, it’s told through the lens of a radio show host. I cannot recommend this one enough — if you like surreal humor with a horror twist.

Good night, Night Vale. Good night.
